KAWASAKI RAIL CAR

Kawasaki Rail Car. is one of the major manufacturers of rail cars supplied to the New York City Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA). This unit of Kawasaki Heavy Industries, Ltd. Has been in operation since 1986, and has a major (230,000 sq. ft.) manufacturing facility in Yonkers, NY. Kawasaki has developed a trackside electrical energy storage system, based on their nickel metal hydride, “Gigacell Battery” technology. The storage system, called their Battery Power System (BPS) is being aimed at application to electrified rail transit systems worldwide, to maximize the recovery of regenerative braking energy and providing third rail voltage support.
