Tom&Sawyer is the market segment founder and leader for fresh, gently cooked pet food across Canada. Our mission in founding Tom&Sawyer is to help family pets live healthier, happier and longer lives. We were the first fresh cooked pet food subscription company in Canada, launched in 2015, we are still the only fully national Direct-To-Consumer (DTC) subscription gently cooked pet food company, and we are also in hundreds of specialty pet and grocery retailers across Canada. Tom&Sawyer has seen... many competitors enter this high growth segment of pet food since our launch, which is great for helping educate pet owners about the significant health benefits of feeding highly nutritious fresh food to the furry members of our family. When we launched, people thought we were crazy for voluntarily adopting human food regulations in making the highest quality pet food in the world using restaurant quality ingredients! But, our continued research clearly shows it positively impacts the health of our family pets, and lowers both the financial and emotional burden of our pets getting sick. We realized a troubling trend however, in that our new competitors are marketing companies who are seeking to jump onto the high growth subscription bandwagon. None of them make their own food, or invest in any science or research around their products, yet aren't very transparent about that key point. They leverage the dirty secret about pet food in Canada - it is completely unregulated. This is a fundamental reason why we launched Tom&Sawyer with transparency and accountability being key hallmarks of our leading brand. It's also the reason why we created the Fresh Cooked Pet Food Alliance industry association to push for enhanced consumer protections so people actually know what they are buying for their beloved pets. We continue to invest in a robust research and development program to bring more innovative and therapeutic products to market in Canada and beyond. We are proud of many firsts in the Canadian market – first to make nutritious gently cooked meals for both dogs and cats, to make specialty diets to help pets with specific health issues, first to have a kitchen facility open to the public to see how our products are made, and first to actually have a head chef and culinary-trained members of the team. We take the production of our products incredibly seriously, and by controlling everything ourselves we can introduce new recipes very quickly and respond to new research findings by our team, which is currently focused on how microbiome and genomics will drive our future recipe development.More
