STEMFUNDER

STEMfunder is a web-based crowdfunding platform for academic projects and research in the fields of science, technology, engineering, and mathematics. The platform works within the academic community leveraging existing alumni networks to provide ideas with funding and exposure. Using STEMfunder, students are able to reach out to potential supporters directly. STEMfunder provides academic projects with a source of funding as well as exposure in the alumni community. For alumni and other supporters, STEMfunder provides directness, transparency, and feedback that is lacking in conventional academic philanthropy as well as the opportunity to develop a meaningful connection with the academic community. STEMfunder was launched in 2013 in Chicago, Illinois.
