State Oil self operates many of the stations while leasing out the remainder to independent operators. State Oil has been in the petroleum industry since 1947. After being purchased by Bill and Pete Anest in 1973, State Oil grew into a model of success and consistency in the industry. Bill and Pete traveled from Greece to America in 1947 at the ages of 13 and 12, respectively. They settled with their parents on the south side of Chicago. In 1959, after working odd jobs as produce men, and mech... anics, Bill and Pete purchased a closed gas station on 70th and Stony Island and turned it into the largest volume station in the city. From there, they took a chance and bought a small motor fuel distributorship in Lake County, Illinois known as State Oil. Through internal growth and acquisitions, State Oil has become one of the largest distributorships in the state of Illinois. Their story truly encapsulates the American dream.
