RIOT
Currently, there exist hundreds of companies making devices that connect to the internet. Some of these companies design wearables (Fitbit, Samsung, Garmin), appliances (Samsung, LG, Sony), or home automation and monitoring products (ADT, Nest, SmartThings). Still others design industrial software and devices, scientific instruments, and a motley collection of electronics that produce streams of information. With these companies and the devices they make come the software platforms required to c... ollect data and relay that data to the end user. Developing the programs to complete these tasks costs time and money for a company whose primary business is to build devices. The software needed to control even a few simple devices can quickly become cumbersome. The simplest way to solve this problem of overproduction is to design one platform capable of gathering and processing data for any device, anywhere, at any time. This platform is what is proposed here. This is Riot.
