RAPPAPORT PRIZES

Ruth and Bruce Rappaport’s love for culture and art, their focus on medical research and the empowerment of women is celebrated each year with the Rappaport Prizes. In 2006, the Bruce and Ruth Rappaport Foundation founded a prize that is awarded annually to Israeli artists with the stated aim to highlight current trends in artistic practice in Israel, and to make the general public aware of fresh creative forces. Exhibitions of the laureates’ works are held at the Tel Aviv Museum of Art duri... ng the year following the award ceremony. Since then, the scope of the prizes has been expanded to include prizes for excellence in biomedical research and also for women who have made exceptional strides forward in the field in Israeli communities. Every year in mid-March, around the birth date of the late Bruce Rappaport, the Rappaport Prize Awards Ceremony is held at The Tel Aviv Museum of Art. The Awards Ceremony recognizes and brings together three very different categories of endeavours and salutes the accomplishment, sensibility and creativity of the Prize laureates. The first prize was inaugurated in 2006, when the Bruce and Ruth Rappaport Foundation created a prize awarding a grant to an established and to a young and promising Israeli artist. The Prize encourages artists to inject contemporary art with innovative ideas. Every year, the Tel Aviv Museum of Art holds solo exhibitions of the previous year’s laureates. The second prize, the Rappaport Prize for Excellence in the field of Biomedical Research, is awarded to scientists, one established and one promising for ground-breaking or innovative research which has the potential to advance the health of mankind. The research must have real and applicable therapeutic implications for human welfare. The Prize is intended to encourage scientists to undertake scientific and clinical research that could significantly advance a specific medical field. In 2017 this prize category was expanded to salute four PhD students and encourage the next generation of researchers who demonstrate excellence in their early work. And finally, began in 2013 and the most recent prize to be announced, the Rappaport Prize for Women Generating Change in Israeli Society is awarded to women for exceptional and noteworthy achievements in the public, social, community or economic spheres in Israel. Similar to the other categories, this category includes several sub-categories that cover exceptional women in different stages of their career: lifetime achievement, longstanding achievement and ground-breaking initiative. In 2019-2020 the prize was awarded in collaboration with Globes and starting from 2021 it is awarded in collaboration with Keshet media group, the largest media group in Israel.More
