Oakbay Resou... rces & Energy is listed on the Johannesburg Stock Exchange. Oakbay’s Operations Oakbay’s operations consist of Central Services, Platinum Development and Gold Operations. Central Services provide multi-channeled support that includes HR, accounting and legal services. The Platinum Development section is engaged in developing uranium ore body, and the Gold Operations division is responsible for mining and selling gold. The company has two plants – the primary plant where uranium is processed, and the secondary plant where gold is handled – and conducts various types of mining, including trackless/mechanised mining, track-bound mining and breast and down-dip mining. Oakbay is the only mining concern in South Africa with a high pressure leach system, and has the capacity of as much as 250,000 tons of ROM per month. Shiva Uranium A subsidiary of Oakbay, Shiva Uranium is a gold and uranium mining concern which offers contracted mining services as the bulk of its operations. Shiva uses an open cast basis to mine gold as a by-product. The company has a processing capacity for uranium of up to 250,000 tons per month and around 65,000 tons of gold ROM per month. Social Responsibility Oakbay Resources & Energy values equity and strives to empower people. The workforce structure is well balanced, with a fair percentage of positions filled by historically disadvantaged South Africans and an equally fair split between genders. Oakbay has implemented various social programs, including a skills development program and agricultural and brick-making projects. The skills development program provides beneficiaries with live training in basic mining skills on working sites. The agricultural and brick-making projects were started by a collaboration between Oakbay and the Matlosana Municipality in Klerksdorp, and are now run by the Tigane community and municipality. The agricultural project involves 12 tunnels, and the brick-making project involves manufacturing paving, block, maxi and stock bricks, and supplying them to local markets.
