NATIONAL RESIDENT MATCHING PROGRAM
NRMP places applicants for postgraduate medical training positions into residency programs at teaching hospitals throughout the United States. It conducts its matches using a mathematical algorithm that pairs the rank ordered preferences of applicants and program directors to produce a “best fit” for filling available training positions. The NRMP is sponsored by the American Board of Medical Specialties (ABMS), the American Medical Association (AMA), the Association of American Medical Colleges (AAMC), the American Hospital Association (AHA), and the Council of Medical Specialty Societies (CMSS).
