National Associates was originally created to serve corporate pension plans, which became more prevalent in the 1940s due to the clarification of pension trusts within the Internal Revenue Code and the rising rates of corporate taxation. National Associates grew when pension plans became popular in the Midwest, where many manufacturing companies blossomed.
