Mira Educação is a Brazilian edtech startup. Our mission is to decrease dropout rates and improve proficiency in education by building technologies that empower teachers, principals, parents and students. We strive to achieve large scale, daily presence and real impact with an app that costs only 8 dollars/year/student and dismisses training to be used. We want to reach millions of users considering pedagogical, cultural, social and economic local differences, with low-cost effective technolog... ies. Through a well-structured process, we gather and analyze real-time precise data to create and support educational programs and public policies. The educational scenario in Brazil is challenging. 2,8 million children aged 4 through 17 are out of school. PISA appoints 51% of Brazilian students below the basic levels in Language and Math, making Brazil one of the worst 10 countries in both subjects. The data is currently gathered through ineffective and inaccurate ways; Teachers write down attendance and manually input it in the system, but most just input random data by the end of the quarter, meaning that only few States and Municipalities can follow students from year-to-year. We developed a user-oriented, low-cost, scalable app, Mira Aula, adapted to developing countries’ context, considering mobile device use, low-connectivity, infrastructure challenges, and budget constraints. It works offline and through it teachers can register student’s attendance, behavior, and the content given in classes, without a stable internet connection or the consumption of their data plans. Students’ attendance report is automatically sent through text messages to the parents later that day.More
