We are an aquatech/biotech startup, based in South Africa, developing diagnostic and therapeutic solutions for improving aquaculture health management worldwide. Our current focus is on improving health monitoring of farmed shellfish by offering a proactive health monitoring service that assesses the degree of chronic stress affecting the animals, allowing early intervention by farmers to prevent disease outbreaks and loss of produce. Disease outbreaks in the aquaculture industry account for bet... ween 30 to 80% of losses, and when you (as a farmer) farm animals with long production cycles (i.e. abalone take 45 months to reach market size), the risk of loss is much greater. Our service aims to solve the inefficiencies in current health testing (i.e. long turnaround times between testing and reporting; testing of dead/moribund animals), while also offering farmers and veterinarians an accurate assessment of the health status of the animals throughout the farm. We believe there is substantial potential for expanding this solution to farmed fish, and ultimately envision integrating machine learning and artificial intelligence to enhance the automation and predictability of the digital reporting tool.More
