LUMEN

LUMEN (Lighting Understanding For a More Efficient Nation) is an ad-hoc coalition of organizations and professionals united to educate consumers about energy-efficient lighting choices and the benefits of energy-efficient lighting products. It has two committees to accomplish its overall goals and objectives: Retail Education Committee and Mass Media Education Committee. LUMEN aims to increase public awareness of the effects and benefits involved with the transition to energy efficient lighting... sources, to curb public misunderstanding of the transition to energy efficient lighting sources relating to both use and effects of available lighting options, to empower the public with increased awareness of new lighting products becoming available and the knowledge to make the best lighting decisions for their personal circumstances, and to address consumer dissatisfaction regarding various lighting technologies. The organization has members from industries such as manufacturing, retail, utility, and media; NGO groups; and market transformation organizations. Some of its members include Appliance Standards Awareness Project, 3M, NYSERDA, Stratacomm, Wattstopper, Midwest Energy Efficiency Alliance, IKEA, CLASP, Food Marketing Institute, Lutron Electronics Co., Inc., OSRAM SYLVANIA, Redwood Systems, and Philips. LUMEN’s advisors include California Energy Commission, Federal Trade Commission, Lighting Research Center at Rensselaer Polytechnic, National Renewable Energy Laboratory, US Department of Energy, and US Environmental Protection Agency.More
