INSTITUTION OF ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY

The Institution of Engineering and Technology (IET) is a professional organization that supports the global engineering community and technology innovations. The organization accredits over 1,000 undergraduate and postgraduate courses and supports teachers and lecturers in engaging students with STEM subjects by providing free teaching resources and supporting engineering-themed educational enhancement and enrichment activities. It organizes over 1,500 seminars, conferences, technical visits, co... urses, lectures, and webcasts annually in order to discuss the topics affecting engineers and technicians across the globe. It also runs a number of policy panels which provide strategic and expert advice to government on key policy topics, including communications, energy, IT, and transport. The organization offers five categories of individual membership: student or apprentice, associate, member, fellow, and honorary fellow. Its library-only membership allows non-members to borrow books and access electronic content services. The IET Fellows and Members can apply for registration with the Engineering Council through the IET under different titles such as CEng: Chartered Engineer, IEng: Incorporated Engineer, EngTech Engineering Technician, ICTTech: ICT Technician, and CITP: Chartered IT Professional. The organization has nearly 160,000 members worldwide in 127 countries. Career Manager is the IET’s online skills development and recording tool that provides registration and membership application functionality with competence management and CPD recording for members. The IET publishes more than 100 books, journals, and magazines covering science, engineering, and technology every year. Its digital library offers access to more than 180,000 technical papers from IET journals, books, magazines, conference publications, and seminar digests. MyCommunity is the IET’s professional online networking and collaboration platform that enables people to connect, interact, and exchange knowledge. Members can log on to IET.tv and watch live or archived event footages via the internet. The five IET sectors are: built environment, design and production, energy, information and communications, and transport. The IET offers annual scholarships, achievement awards, innovation awards, and The Young Woman Engineer of the Year Award. The Institution of Engineering and Technology was formed in March 2006 by a merger of the Institution of Electrical Engineers (IEE) and the Institution of Incorporated Engineers (IIE).
