Gary Public Transportation Corporation's mission is to serve the employment, social, and health transportation needs of the citizens of Gary and the greater Northwest Indiana region, while stimulating economic development within Gary. In 1974, the City of Gary acquired Gary Intercity Lines and created Gary Public Transportation Corp. Improvements have included more service, modernized infrastructure, and improved connections. GPTC views its role as having a large stake in community development, employment, intermodal transit, and the overall growth of the region.
