FILM MAUI Aqua Innovations I'm Mike Welch- a resident of the Island of Maui for the past 37 years. Currently I am resident of Kula but spent 30 years as a “seasider” in Kihei. That amount of time has bonded me and kept me attracted to the ocean way of life---that is-I grew up surfing, diving and fishing among other activities that deal with sea. I have 3 children an 8, 1o and a tween year old and try to emphasize the importance of learning and understanding the ways of the ocean and its i... mpact on all we do. My professional experience as a show tech, stage manager and technical coordinator for the past 23 years has opened the door to a new venture that would incorporate film, show experience and the ocean aspects of Maui. I propose starting a business that caters to other entities that have projects and activities requiring a state of the art ""platform"" (physically a boat or boats) to carry on their project’s needs. It will incorporate professionals from all aspects of the ""show"" industry and/or oceanic resources--personel and otherwise to meet their venture’s needs. The project I'm working on will focus aiding the community in expediting their requirements for their project: from the new and upcoming film industry to aqua culture and research of renewable energies from the sea as well as education of the community and the larger world. This source and service will be an ocean boat based source and will be a hands on endeavor--the ""OFFICE"" is the ocean and the information and data can be recorded and sent digitally to other land based locations for review and educational purposes. The impact of this could be very significant for schools and the general community as they could tap into live feed of research and activity going on on the boat via cameras and other information through digital data.
