COUNCIL FOR AID TO EDUCATION
From 1952 to 1989, CAE ran a highly successful national campaign with the Ad Council called "Give to the College of Your Choice." A significant increase in donations to higher education resulted from this campaign. During this time, CAE also produced a short film called "Education is Everybody's Business," which aired on national television for several years. CAE was the first organization in the US to regularly provide national statistics on private giving to higher education. The Voluntary ... Support of Education (VSE) survey is the authoritative source on private giving to institutions of higher education and private K-12 schools nationwide. It consistently captures about 85 percent of the total voluntary support to U.S. colleges and universities. CAE has managed the survey as a public service for over 50 years. Results of the survey are distributed in an annual report authored by the survey director, Ann E. Kaplan. Results are also available by subscription to an online, interactive databaseโVSE Data Miner. In 1996, CAE became a subsidiary of the nonprofit research organization, the RAND Corporation. Roger Benjamin, head of RAND Education, became CAEโs president. Dr. Benjamin continues to lead CAE today.
