Bluechiip has developed an IT‑based temperature and identification tracking solution for biosamples in the health and life sciences industry. The smart chiip is a passive device based on MEMS technology that contains no electronics and is either embedded or manufactured into cryogenic storage equipment such as vials, cassettes (canisters), racks and towers or liquid nitrogen tanks. The smart chiip has advantages over more traditional identification technologies that have significant limitations e.g. Where a barcode requires a visible tag or line‑of‑sight optical scan, bluechiip® technology does not; and unlike labels, barcodes and RFID, the bluechiip® technology can sense the temperature and ID of each individual biosample a smart chiip is attached to or embedded in.
