ATHENS AREA CREDIT UNION
Athens CO-OP Credit Union was originally founded in May of 1959. The Athens CO-OP credit union was established to assist the local community with their equipment and farm supply purchases. The entire credit union membership file was kept in one drawer at the cashier counter of the CO-OP. This institution had grown into a responsible financial institution by 1990. The Athens CO-OP Credit Union maintained its hometown style of doing business during a time when hometown banks were being bought up by large corporations.
