THE AMERICAN ACADEMY OF ARTS & SCIENCES
The American Academy of Arts and Sciences is an honorary society that recognizes achievement in the natural sciences, social sciences, arts, and humanities. The Academy was in 1780 for the purpose of ""cultivating every art and science which may tend to advance the interest, honor, dignity, and happiness of a free, independent, and virtuous people.” The Academy provides policy advice to decision-makers in government, academia, and the private sector through studies, publications, and programs. The Academy’s membership includes over 4,000 fellows and foreign honorary members. The Academy maintains its headquarters at Cambridge, Massachusetts.
