ALTAVISTA
AltaVista was one of the first Internet search engines. In February 2003, AltaVista was bought by Overture Services, and in October of that year, Overture itself was taken over by [Yahoo](/organization/yahoo). In August 2004, shortly after Yahoo's acquisition, the AltaVista site started using the Yahoo Search technology. Today the AltaVista site no longer exists. The URL www.altavista.com now diverts to the Yahoo website.
