Anytime Airtime is a licensed reseller of virtual prepaid airtime for all 3 mobile telecomms operators in Botswana, Africa, and 2 of the 3 operators in Mozambique. Our business model revolves around recruiting informal traders and supplying them with handsets and virtual airtime on a cash basis in order to be able to establish a general credit profile for them. We provide basic financial literacy training to the traders in basic bookkeeping and stock control. Impact is an integral part of our business model. From the beginning our strategy was to: 1) Connect Our Company With A Cause Our cause is financial inclusion and empowerment for women and youth, the achievement of which will allow our company to be a leading agent for social change on the continent. We chose this cause because we believe access to capital and economic opportunity is the single largest hurdle standing in the way of uplifting the condition of the people of Botswana specifically and the developing world in general. The demographic of women and youth meanwhile has been recognised globally as the key to implementing large-scale socio-economic change for the better in developing countries. 2) Find A Link We looked at the needs of the informal sector in Botswana, the dynamics of the various business activities in this sector, the presence of a preponderance of women and youth in certain enterprises, the ease of entry for this demographic into certain economic activites, and the trend towards innovation and digitisation that is gaining real traction on the continent. Looking closely at these parameters and related data allowed us to chart a path towards the establishment of systematic approach towards aligning our private enterprise with our stated objective of being an agent for socio-economic change. 3) Put It Into Practice We chose virtual airtime distribution or 'Top-Up' as a service that would allow us to harness technology to the needs of our target demographic. Through this product we have been able to recruit informal traders, supply them with a valuable commodity, establish their general credit profile, provide financial literacy training, provide credit services to their enterprise and improve their socio-economic condition. Having established proof of concept, we intend to provide our network with additional opportunities for commerce through sales of prepaid electricity, water, fixed line internet access, micro-insurance, in short anything that can be sold as a voucher or token. Key to this is integrating agnostic cash-in and cash-out services for every mobile money service (Orange Money and MyZaka in Botswana) as well as integrating with traditional banking systems. Anytime Airtime also has a B2B unit that provides instant prize fulfillment of airtime and electricity for corporate clients. This unit was established in Q4 of 2017 as a means of diversifying the revenue base and to date has executed 6 campaigns, 2 for coca cola, and 4 for local retailers and fuel distributors. Anytime Airtime expanded its operations to Mozambique in May 2018, and will be expanding to Zimbabwe, Zambia and Tanzania in 2019 off of the back of the new business model.More
